Hint #1 - The prowler

So, we promised a hint or two each week leading up the challenge - this is the first one.  In some way we will be utilizing the following.
Now I know many of you are thinking this is not much of a hint as you know we had these in our pocession for a while now, but for those who are not aware of some of the cool pieces of equipment we have here at CFS - you now do.  The prowler in some way will be involved in the challenge workouts - Hint #1.

I discovered Crossfit on the internet, emailed Chad about it and I started at Crossfit Saskatoon in May 2009, since I've started there I've lost 50lbs and I'm in the best shape of my life.  I ran a 10km in 54:17 this year with basically no training besides Crossfit.  I competed in last year's challenge not really knowing what I was getting into and had a blast.

Leya was on our affiliate team that went to the World CrossFit Games in California this year (see picture). She is also competing at the Prairie CrossFit Challenge coming up on September 18th at CrossFit Saskatoon. All fitness levels are welcome to sign up, as there are 3 divisions to compete in. I've been CrossFitting for about 2 and a half years.  I found it when a rugby
buddy sent me a link to the mainpage.  After poking around and watching every
video in their library I was convinced enough to try it out for myself.  My
first WOD was 21-15-9 of DB Hang Squat Cleans and Pull-Ups. After that one I
couldn't straighten my arms for three days.  It didn't matter though, I was
hooked.

About 3 months later I found out about of CrossFit Saskatoon and got in contact
with Chad.  Joining CFS was a great learning experience in proper scaling and
being a part of a class environment.  After attending some certifications and a
couple months of training at CFS I joined the coaching staff.  Since then I have
been training hard, coaching athletes, competing, and having a blast being
healthy and fit.

Keep it going people this is great, we just reached 75 competitors and we only have a few weeks left to sign-up.  Lets get going and push this even further.  this will be an event to remember - guaranteed.

Send us your athlete Profiles

The event is nearing and growing in size daily -we are getting excited to host as you should be getting excited to participate.  the workouts are planned and they are going to be sure to please.  We have many of the main crossfit movements planned and many new modalities that we can guarantee you have never tested in a timed event.  We guarantee excitement and the unknown for all athletes.  The workouts are all scalable and measurable and will truly test fitness across broad times and modal domains - we will find the prairies fittest person on September 18, 2010.

To ensure this blog stays exciting and informational we need your help! - We are looking for all participants to submit an athlete profile.  Even if you do not think your times and numbers are something worth displaying to the world, we still want them.  This is a chance for you to brag about the things that you do best inside the gym.  We do not need a full list of everything you have ever done, but a short list of the named girls wod's, max effort lifts, and anything else you would like to make mention of is fair game, also include a bit of history - how long you have been crossfitting for and how you got involved it the sport, if you have competed before, and lastly we need a picture too.  This is not mandatory, but it would be nice - send us a picture of you, preferably crossfitting, but it can be any picture (high school grad pic would be nice too).

All this info can then be sent to info@crossfitsaskatoon.ca

Thanks for your help in making the challenge better - see you all soon

The Sask CrossFit Challenge has been re-named the PRAIRIE CROSSFIT CHALLENGE.
Based on the representation of people for the challenge we thought it was better suited to have the challenge be named Prairie CrossFit Challenge (PCFC).
So far we have representation form Edmonton, Calgary, Prince Albert, Okotoks, Winnipeg, Regina, as well as a few others, we have all the prairie provinces represented and taking part.  So far the sign-up is going well as we are at nearly 65 people - lets keep it rocking as the more involved the better the day.

As for movements and WODs....there is a special place in my heart for Helen as she was the first Girl I did as Rx'd and I do love pull-ups, especially when you're feeling fresh coming off a rest day.  I dread different movements on different days, but I never really look forward to Turkish Get ups because they usually result in bruises...wimpy, I know."

A little bit about what's going on...

So I guess I didn't introduce myself.  For those that don't know me, my name is Jason Trinh and I'm from CFS in Saskatoon.  For those from the gym that do know me, I'm ONLY known as Tron (thanks a lot for that by the way Chad).  I was introduced to CF late April of 2009 and I've been in love since.  It has absolutely changed my life in many ways; I eat healthier, I feel better, I've lost weight and I am better at basically everything I do - I'm much fitter.  I've improved myself physically and mentally and I owe it to CrossFit and the people that are there for the same things I am.  The reason why I wanted to become a trainer was so that I could help others find what I have found, and hope that they become as motivated as I did.  And thus, the reason why I'm doing this blog.  I hope that through this blog I can motivate people to join the challenge, to test themselves, to meet other people who enjoy CF as well but from other gyms, but most of all, to have fun.  The reason why I was intimidated by my first challenge is because I was afraid that I would just get destroyed by people who were too competitive, and let's face it...that wouldn't be fun.  I have no problem now in saying that I love the competition although I look at it from a different light.  I am there to compete with myself, challenge myself, and so are others.  It's a matter of doing the best YOU can do, and the people to the left of you and right of you are doing the same.  When you perform to the best of your ability and exceed your own personal expectations, and when others do it too, you feel an energy and an excitement that eliminates the uneasiness and tension that comes with competition.  I dare anyone that has never been to a challenge to try it once and tell me afterwards that they didn't enjoy themselves.  So if you're hesitant about signing up, think about what I've said.  Worst case scenario, you wasted a day doing workouts, hanging out with people you see all the time at the gym.

What I'll be doing over the weeks is including videos and athlete profiles, as well as giving updates of the going-ons of the day of the challenge.  I've been told there will be photo clues of what the events may be so keep your eyes peeled.  To kick off the athlete profiles, I'll be telling you a bit about myself.

(Oh, and if you didn't know what I looked like before, come to the day of the challenge and this will seem familiar)

Subscribe to stay on top of the news!

For all of you that haven't done so already, registration for the fall challenge is now available by clicking the following link:

For those of you who have already registered, you can look forward to a day that promises to be filled with excitement, challenges, and a great opportunity to meet members of other CrossFit communities.  If you are new to CF or are unsure of whether or not the challenge is for you, just talk to anyone that has been to the 2009 SCFC or 2010 Spring Fling.  There are three divisions for males and females, with scaled workouts that allow you to compete with others of the same fitness level.  As the day of the competition draws nearer, I will be updating this blog with whatever news I come across, such as the number of competitors, videos of WODs (explaining movement standards),  as well as pictures and profiles of competing athletes.  If anyone has any photos they would like to submit or if you have any suggestions on improving the blog, please feel free to e-mail me and I'll do my best to accommodate.

Happy training all ;)
